Color Blast

Hello!
Long time no see, isn't it? Well, blame it all on the monsoon. :(

I thought it would be perfect to go visit my folks during this one month break  from college and so I rushed home (yeah!!). Well, I was super excited of course, not just because I was going *HOME* but also because I could finally play dress up! :D

Though I am not really a big fan of loud colors (on me, as I come out as too garish :P), I reeeeeaalllyy wanted some brightness around! So I decided to try the *Prints-on-Prints* trend. I was really doubtful about the look, but then it was just-so-comfortable, I just had to go with it!

Now, before I go about how I styled my prints-on-prints look, here are some DO's and DONT's of this trend.

  • There are really no hard and fast rules as to how to wear this look, but the safest way to do it is to keep things clean with a uniform print from head-to-toe!
  • If you want to be more experimental, go ahead and wear prints head-to-toe and they don't have to match! Just keep in mind the accessories though! Refrain from using very loud statement accessories. You already have too much on and you wouldn't want to look like a bandwagon!!
  • One of the *don'ts* of this trend is to wear ill-fitted outfits. Being a statement in itself, if the fit is not snug, it will only make you look ugly (or even scary!) and nobody ever wants that. In short, try to keep the fit as snug as possible ;) !
  • Pulled back hair and nude make-up is the best way to show off your statement prints but you can choose otherwise (like I did :D)

I paired my crazy print leggings with a floral vest. The leggings are a cheap find from a thrift store in Bandra. The color contrast is a complete stunner!

The black floral vest is from atmosphere. I accessorized the look with spiked necklace from RaastaChaap (buy here) and my black studded sling. As I was travelling, I put on my most comfortable black brogues.

I am on the heavier side so I chose to throw on a sheer blue shirt/top to cover my behind. Not only does it cover my back, but it also gives an illusion of a thinner me ;)

Now, does this post give you a reason enough to make colors your wardrobe's best friend this season?

The Spanish in Me

Hello!
Lately I have been taking a lot of inspiration from everything around me. The previous look was inspired by the *fresh green nature*. This time though, it’s a tad bit different.
Spain is known for its history, monuments, culture, tourism, tomatina festival, bull fights, food, football and Senorita! I have always admired Spain.
Since I haven't yet got a chance to visit the magical country physically, I decided to live a tiny bit of it in my own country itself. So, what did I do?

See the pictures and guess for yourself!

A spinach salad with goat cheese
inspires my bright green eye make-up with white lined lower lid (Lakme)

 Tomato based cold soup
Served with a "puchka" on top, the presentation inspired my golden lined lips filled with mandarin red.

Traditional Spanish Rice dish cooked with Seafood.
The fresh mix of colours on the plate inspired the floral printed dress I'm wearing.

Fillet of Beef
the texture, the brown sauce and the green tender bamboo shoots are the perfect inspiration for meaty looking legs!

The good people at Fashion Most Wanted invited me to this heavenly place for a Spanish food tasting session.

All drooling now, aren’t you? So, the next time u want to give your taste buds a surprise treat, head to POCO LOCO, Mumbai for some authentic Spanish Cuisine! The restaurant being small and cozy, it does give you a warm and homely feeling with everything happening right in front of your eyes. If needed, the chef himself comes down to your table to help you decide what to order.
My favourite - The gazpacho soup and paella. And yes! The sangrias. They are simply delicious!

Kindly Corporate!

Hello!
I look at and think of a corporate as "stressed, depressed, but always well-dressed"!
What I tried today is a corporate look. Now that its a Monday, and that I'm interning, what else could fit the mood more?

The fact that in monsoon, the roads, trees and the nature looks its freshest best was an inspiration in itself for me to do this "fresh green" post. Now scroll down and look at the pictures before I bore you with my explanation of why, how, where I wore this! You really don't want me to get started, do you? ;)

The high-low fashion is, needless to say, the talk of street-style world. And, the breezy top keeps me fresh in this humid Mumbai monsoon.

These pretty frilly hem keeps the feminine touch intact, without making me look like one deadline-bound corporate woman.

Its the bag and shoes which adds a pop of color to my otherwise dull colored outfit.

Top - Thrifted
Skirt - tailormade
Shoes - Hill Road
Bag - Esbeda
Eyes - Maybelline (Jade)

How do you define a corporate?

Bohemian Rhapsody

You can never keep a lady away from accessories, be it sparkling diamonds or just quirky fashion accessories! It all boils down to how you accessorize an outfit that either makes or breaks it. From what I figured out over time, my style has always had a bohemian touch in it. My love for stand-out accessories and jewelry has always been looked up to, not to forget my own eternal love for them too and the urge to show it off as much as possible :P. And what better way to show off a tiny section of your *I'm-so-proud-of-it* collection than on a perfect sunny day out!! And so I thought of putting together the Boho Chic look. Aha! this time not on me but on my dear friend and a very pretty lady - Tejeswani Sharma. With a demure body but a strong face, she exudes what Bohemian means to me - Independent!

There are no written rules to go about this look. Everyone has their own version of it.
Mine's this.

Firstly, I love this denim shirt-vest-jacket! Yes, its multipurpose (more styling with the same piece will be done soon). Don't miss out on the subtle lace detailing at the back.

For the headband, I used a long (fake) pearl necklace. Its an old piece of jewelry which I knew would certainly come in use one fine day, and voila!

Subtle make-up highlighting only the eyes and the rest of the face brushed with some bronzer for the sun-kissed effect

Oh! that flowy long skirt. Well, its a patchwork cotton skirt from a Bombay flea market. A perfect  buy for the summers as the material breathes!

Now for my heap of jewelry. Most of it are from Goa. Where else can you expect to spot some real good hippie stuff ;) . A good fat layering of multiple neckpieces and I get what I want.

You really think the boho chic look would be complete without a "feather"? Look closer my dear ;) . Spotted? Well thats actually the only brooch I have and needless to say its amazing!

Oh yes! my prop too.. a peacock feather :D

Loose pants and Houndstooth

Hello!

Pants have been a rage since quite a few seasons and yes, its here to stay! Last season was a whirlpool of florals and military, geometric-prints and coloured pants. And undoubtedly, it has made its way to the 2013 spring summer fashion trend must-haves along with some of its cousins :D.
Without going into further details about which kind of pants are a hit this season (you can find it here), Il go straight to the one I vouched for. Owing to the extreme heat and grime, I chose to wear a pair of loosely fitted pants, which in India is famous as a Patiala. Yup, the very-heavily-flared-at-the-hips and traditional Punjabi ethnic wear!

I chose a plain black cotton Patiala to go with the shirt I am so very fond of. Its a very basic round neck (or bandhgala, whatever you might want to call it) houndstooth shirt. The loose fit makes it a sure shot winner for the sweaty summer.

silver nails and black and silver baroque earrings to add a feminine touch

I paired the look with my bright orange clutch from splash to add a pop of colour!

Share with us which pants will you be rocking this season!

The Whites of Neon

Hello!
Its finally summer! Full-blown sticky grimy scorch summer! And I have been writing and writing about keeping fresh during summers and blah blah without actually doing so :D. Well, not exactly. You see I have a full time college to go to, where I have to wear my uniform (a very unflattering set of tees). All the experiment I do is with my lowers. So one fine day when I was too tired to attend college, I thought of finally trying on an outfit that has been haunting my thoughts since long.

I was a little apprehensive about the look at first because its a crazy clash of many different trends all put together in one outfit, but I must say it worked out well. After all, its white that's dominating. Have a look...

I also incorporated my gothic skull studded bag in this look (a bag I almost forgot about). In short, I experimented with anything possible :D

When I saw this pretty polka dotted easy-breezy vest, I immediately fell in love with it. The oversized fitting, intricate lace design on the neck and the fact that its dotted gives it a very vintage feel. I paired it with my neon peach noodle strap and lime green pants for some splash of colour. My accessories are minimal as seen - charm necklace from Accessorize, mo ring - Bandra and skull bag - Tibetan Plaza, Bangalore. The brogues worn here are ultra comfy and one of my favourite pair, bought in Kolkata.

Happy Levitating!
We tried experimenting with the pictures as usual. Hope you like our effort. Do not forget to leave your comments/suggestions below.

Indian Lace

Hello!

Sari is no doubt considered the most gracious drape in the world. But what do you think of the everyday Indian wear - Kurti? A one-piece Indian "dress" :D

Its the most comfortable everyday wear for Indians. But it need not be boring always! Prep it up with some statement pieces and you get results that leave you grinning and you looking stunning!

This was what I wore to college for an evening concert.

I dint want to take away all the attention from the electic blue kurti. But at the same time, I dint want myself to look like an ocean :D
So, I accessorized the look with this simple chunky neckpiece from tribal zone and this Arabian motif ring from Bangalore.

These pretty blue shoes are a gift from an old friend from Bangkok. As for the lace leggings, its from Splash!

Zari embroidery on the hem of the kurti.
( PS-I tailor-made this kurti with a blouse piece :D )

I used blue shadow on my upper lids and used black gel liner for a winged look from maybelline.

A hint of reddish-brown blush from lakme on my cheeks for that evening look.

And it was a beautiful windy evening!

So next time its a family function, you know how to turn heads ;)
Let me know what you think of this look.
